The World is My Domain - Welcome to MaryBeth Mills Muldowney's World

"If I can smell it, I can't sell it."

Sometimes a Seller just cannot understand the importance of having a home smell pleasing....and pleasing does not mean 16 air freshners either.

A few years back I had a very polite Buyer inhand, we went into a luxury home with a good price tag.

My buyers were expanding their family and as such the need for a larger home.  My pregnant Buyer is very gracious and well mannered and waited till we were outside of this home to loose her lunch in their driveway.  The home had such a horrible smell, a mix of dogs gone bad and cats that had just gone.

The owners just could not understand why anyone thought it had a horrible aroma which was chasing the buyers away.

As Buyers and Agents we visit Sellers home with all our senses.  We want it of course to look nice comforting our sense of sight.  If we run our hands on your new granite counters we want to make sure our hands do not stick to your breakfast on the countertop - the sense of touch.  Always nice to have a very low volume background music playing - the sense of hearing.  And of course taste and smell many times accompany one another and this is just as important as the others.

Make your home inviting - maybe that means there is no smell at all! not flowery or overpowering air freshners, not pets, not strong odors of last night's dinner or the cat food on the counter.

We all hate to be the bearer of bad news and truly some home Sellers have lived with that stench for so long they longer even smell it but their Buyers will not be able to get beyond it, they will not be able to picture themselves living in their home even if it is attractively priced and in the best neighborhood.

In our area of Massachusetts I always recommend Marlon Blanco of ServiceMaster South Shore Inc to remedy this type of situation.  He and his company are very thorough, no job is too big or too small, he is efficient and effective at what they do.  ServiceMaster's dedicated and professional team are the best!

I highly recommend them to residents of Massachusetts as they cover a large geographic area.
